We all get them. The "You're such a hipster, shave that beard" comment here and there. If you're like me, they get annoying. Especially if you don't consider yourself Hipster in any way.
First, some people are okay with being labeled a hipster, and that's fine https://experience.tripster.ru/experience/Kaliningrad/20316-rybalka/. Every generation has them. It seems to come from the previous generation's dislike for differences in the way that they grew up.
Oxford defines the term hipster as:
A person who follows the latest trends and fashions, especially those regarded as being outside the cultural mainstream.
So by this definition, someone calling growing a beard "hipster" agrees that growing facial hair is the latest trend or fashion...What?? It's time to get some things straight and explain what growing a beard is all about.
Darwin, Lincoln, Hayes, Douglas, Knox, Engels...We can keep going. These men made big move in history sporting epic beards and no worries about being labeled anything hipster. Can you imagine Mary Todd Lincoln saying "Hey Abe, that beard has got to go". Nah, that didn't happen.
Most bearded guys make a decision to grow a beard. It is a choice and men stand by their choices and decisions. NO flickering or fraying here. If you like your beard and it gets comments (positive or negative) just make sure you stand by your decision. The firmness in your belief always shuts people up.
Let's face it. There are a lot of genetics involved with facial hair growth. Some people can gorw facial hair some can't. I know not all of my friends can grow an epic beard. Patchy attempts get them angry and they take it out on the full grown glorious beard.
