WordPress for Dummies by Lisa Sabin-Wilson

Okay, I know why I got this assignment – because I am a blogging dummie. But I’m in good company so I don’t feel bad. This book has been a real treasure. I have two different WordPress websites and I’m constantly asking (nagging) my daughter (who, by the way is Head Mommy of this website) to help me. I yell out, “OHMYGOD! Where’d it go!!???” and she yells out, “What’d you do now, Mom?” and I respond, “It’s not me it’s this stupid program!”

I was getting so frustrated and stressed out when I wanted to add a picture to my website. I messed it up so badly and my daughter wasn’t home and I almost started crying. Now, that may be a bit extreme, but I was working along nicely and got stuck and got mad. I didn’t even know how to change the date. I knew it was time to get a Dummies book, which I strongly recommend you get before you begin a blog. Learn from my mistakes.

No humiliation here. Let me tell you. This is a really cool book. I wanna add things that I really don’t need to my sites ( yet! ) and I’m all set to start changing themes, but that may be taking on too much too soon. I gotta take things slowly because I’m easily stimulated. Which tells you right there that Ms. Sabin-Wilson gets your blood-pumping and your fingers clicking. She’s like a an encouraging coach who wants you to succeed. My daughter wants me to succeed too, but on my own time – not while she’s watching that new show Reaper on the CW Channel.

So, to all the folks out there who don’t think they can blog, I’m here to say “Oh yes you can! If I can, so can you.” I have a lot more to learn, and you can’t learn everything from a book, but with Lisa’s go get ‘em encouragement you will be well on your way to creating a very nice web page.

  1. Oh yes, I got that book a while back and it was a great help. I was frustrated with a few things (like the picture uploading) and after going through the frustration of the fun and games of it all, it turns out that there were some simple answers to make it all easy. It’s like playing with a new toy learning how to set up the themes and it is nice not having to rely on someone elses theme and wondering why it doesn’t look like it is supposed to.

I had great fun with that book :)

  2. So glad you liked the book and found it to be helpful in your WordPress pursuits!! I’m always thrilled to hear the book is a help to people :) Thanks so much for the mention and best of luck with your ongoing WordPress education!

  3. Do you think the book would be helpful to someone who already knows the basics, but is looking to learn more?

  4. I definitely think that expanding your knowledge on things you believe you know 100% is great. I have this, and the wordpress complete book. There were things in the book I’ve thought about in the past but didn’t think you could do. Finding a few simple codes that were in the book were amazing. They were so useful. Granted half the book I already knew but there were all these little things that really opened my eyes to the versatility that is wordpress

  5. I have to thank the same book for my start in blogging also.

Lisa has written it in a very reassuring style, that a dummy like me can follow.
