The Richest Man In Town by W. Randall Jones

W. Randall Jones is the founder of Worth Magazine and what he set out to do was this: He traveled to a hundred cities or towns across America to interview the wealthiest person in each and to discover what that person’s individual wealth commandment was. Here’s the rub – the person was NOT someone who inherited their wealth, they were self-made and how did they do it? What mantra did they live by and could we do it, too?
He interviewed everybody from Thomas Golisano (founder of Rochester, NY Paychex) to Woodside, California’s Larry Ellison (founder of Software Development Labs) and anybody in between. The RMIT’s are as diverse as us regular folk, but they aren’t like your run of the mill, millionaires. Why is that? Well, first of all they are much richer – an average of $3.5 billion – with a b, they live quiet lives, and most of them you’ve never heard of or do not see daily in the main stream media. 84 of them are college graduates, 2 are college drop-outs, and 14 didn’t attend attend college for one day. 52 of them are Republicans, 29 are Democrats and 19 are Independents.
So, as far as their 12 Commandments of Wealth? Well, they are truly basic work hard rules such as, Wake Up Early – Be Early (Commandment #5) or Commandment #8 – Location Doesn’t Matter. This was an interesting little book that I enjoyed reading.
If you wish to strike it rich like Jed Clampett or are buying tickets in hopes of winning the lottery, then this book is not for you. But, iff you believe in putting your nose to the grindstone and setting your sights on a goal you will not let go of, then definitely read this book.
