Stress Relief
I heard recently that there is no such thing as stress. You can’t go outside with an empty jar, fill it with stress then bring it home or with you to wherever you go. Hmmm, sounds good. Then why are we so stressed-out? Why do we do this to ourselves? No answers from me today on that so I won’t “go there” today. Instead, I’ll give you ten stress-busting tips.
Ready? Here goes:
- Be completely present for whatever it is you are doing. Keep focused.
- Include something you consider beautiful in your life on a daily basis. Example – fresh flowers, beautiful music, 5-minutes of quiet reflection, etc.
- Participate in activities you enjoy as often as possible.
- Keep your pace relaxed. That includes when you are walking, eating and working.
- Take a break after your meals to relax and digest.
- Go outside at least once each day. Enjoy the simple things that nature has to offer – scenery, weather, birds chirping, squirrels, etc. Drive or walk to the water.
- Take notice of the tension in your body during the day. Breathe deeply and gently stretch any area that feels tense or “stuck.”
- When you catch your mind racing and worrying, breathe deeply and gently (try) to shift your focus to something in the moment.
- Wear comfortable, loose clothing. Natural fibers are the best because they breathe too.
- Don’t hold your feelings in day after day after day. Find a safe place where you can express and embrace them. In the old cartoons one of the characters always screamed (quietly) into a paper bag, ran out to the country then opened that bag and let it go. Not real, but you get the picture.
Try all, some, or one of these. Something should work.
