Spiritually Savvy Kids Book Series
Ever since my daughter was in utero, we have been reading to her. Reading, to me, is one of the key essentials to bonding and teaching your child. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies and I am blessed to be able to pass it on to my children. My daughter enjoys reading at the age of two years old. She will grab a book and say “Mommy, read to me.” I find her reading books in a glider when she should be napping. At the ripe age of two, I have been teaching her about emotions and facial expressions. We have been learning how to express our emotions in a good manner and learning that it’s okay to feel the way we do. As I have been teaching her how to express her emotions, I was offered the opportunity to review the Spiritually Savvy Kids Book Series.
The Spiritually Savvy Kids Book Series is written by Kathy Walsh and her “intentions with this series is to give children the tools to live a more peaceful life.” We had the opportunity to review the following books:

Each book is paperback, which makes it easier for young children to read and hold. Every single book is full of different colors, shapes, and a peaceful message. My daughter has a pretty good attention span and can sit through long stories, as well as multiple books. I really liked the fact that these books were short, colorful, and each page had a picture to compliment the words. Our current favorites to read, which are the ones she grabs for first before nap time and bed time, are “Love is the Moon, the Stars and the Sky” and “The Bright Blue Balloon.”
“Love is the Moon, the Stars and the Sky,” shows children how to bring love into their every day lives. As a parent, I am always showing my daughter love and how to love back. We have been learning how to express love through notes, apologies, hugs, kisses, and playing nicely with friends. I love how this book shows love through giving it to others, but how awesome it is to feel loved back. The book has artistic drawings of a pregnant woman, a family, a child hugging a unicorn and the unicorn hugging her, and many heart shapes throughout the book. My daughter enjoys the story and enjoys the photos.
“The Bright Blue Balloon,” teaches children how to express their emotions in a healthy way. I always tell my daughter, “You are allowed to be mad but you are not allowed to be bad.” This is an quote we use every single day. I want her to know it’s okay to have the emotions/feelings she has, but we have to express those emotions in a healthy manner. When she’s feeling sad, we let her know it’s okay to be sad and to express that sadness in a good way. Therefore, I am loving how Walsh talks about a girl putting her emotions in a ball and pretending it is a bright blue balloon then one day the balloon pops! Just reading this story makes me want to start a tradition with my daughter of putting our “emotions” into a real balloon and setting it free whenever we our sad, mad, or just having a bad day.
Walsh has really did an amazing job writing a series for children on how to be and stay positive, express their emotions, show love and gratitude. I am excited to continue teaching my daughter the tools she needs to be at peace in this world and hoping our baby boy will enjoy the same teachings when he arrives.

Thank you Jessica for the beautiful review. It is my first one and my eyes teared up when I read about your experience with your daughter and my books. I was thrilled to imagine her putting her feelings in a balloon and letting them go. It is amazing how different life is when you show love. Thanks again for the wonderful gift of your review.
