The Instead Softcup
I am always on the lookout for menstrual products that make a woman’s time of the month a little easier and a little more natural, without the fear of Toxic Shock Syndrome, synthetic fibers and bleached cotton.
Most of what is used in traditional menstrual products are not good for a woman’s body and have been known to cause serious illness as well as other ailments that companies try to brainwash women into buying anyway, in hopes that women do not catch on to what they are really putting against and in their bodies. These large companies, use attractive wrapping and what they refer to as “advanced technology” to brainwash women into buying and using their products, hoping that they simply do not catch on to what really goes into these products.
I have reviewed other menstrual products here before and have recently come across a new product for those who are also looking for alternatives to the traditional pads and tampons.
The Instead Softcup is a product that I most definitely should have come across earlier. It is an FDA-approved, disposable menstrual product that is worn completely internally and holds your menstrual flow for up to 12 hours—twice as long as you can keep a tampon in! It is, just as the name suggests, a soft cup with a flexible, circular rim that when compressed for insertion, is about the same size as a tampon. It is non-absorbent and does not irritate your skin; it is a one-size fit for nearly all women and it also contains absolutely no latex.
The Instead Softcup is completely comfortable to wear and is also safe—never being linked to Toxic Shock Syndrome. Another great benefit of the Softcup is that there is no menstrual odor because the cup is worn internally, your flow does not come in contact with air. Some other great benefits of this product are that the Softcup allows for “clean sex” because of it’s unique design and some women have even said that it is an effective method for conceiving, because the Softcup keeps all fluids close to the cervix, so this is a product that is definitely worth looking into not just for menstrual reasons, but if you’ve had trouble conceiving in the past.
The cup, while a little tricky to insert at first, is one of the most innovative menstrual products I have seen. The benefits of using the Softcup are immense and after you get the hang of inserting the cup, it’s smooth sailing.
The Instead Softcup has sold more than 100 million units since 1996, when it was introduced and can be found at your local Target, Walgreens, CVS, Wal-Mart and Rite-Aid, among others.

I like the Diva Cup it is reusable & easy to use. I have heard good things about Instead working great for conceiving.
Ginny: The Instead Softcup isn’t reusable, I just learned that at their site
BEST product I have ever used, the Instead soft cup. Have not used a “tampon” for more then 4 years. I am glad it is not a reusable product, not because I am not very concerned about the environment but because anything that you stick in your body to catch fluid would be hard to sterilize for re-use. Thank you to the makers of Instead Softcup, you have changed the way I am many of my friends view our periods. MUCH easier! Great product.
Malin: But the Diva Cup -is- reusable.
Holly: Yeah I noticed that it was the Diva Cup she was talking about there, so I answered a bit fast
eh it happens i think a lot of these concepts are great. I think the diva cup is more eco-friendly but for people who are getting used to using products like this i think the soft cup is areally good stepping stone.
I’m actually kinda weird about something like this. I mean I’m totally for trying it, but I’m also afraid it’ll get stuck or…sucked in where I can’t get it. xD
I have been using a product similar called
Instead for years – I love it!!! and I do reuse it. No – it won’t get stuck, there is no where for it to go.
I started using it so I could sleep through the night without getting up to change. I was a little afraid to go out until I got used to it, but since I started using it, it is the only think I use. My boyfriend and I have had sex with it lots; he loves it.
This is the same product as Instead. And like Sue, I have been reusing mine as well. It generally works best if you clean it out in the shower, all the contents get safely & cleanly washed away, and you have an opportunity to clean it throughly before reinserting it.
Please update your blog regularly. I liked you posts. They are both informative and interesting to read. I will surely bookmark them for future read.
I’m 14 years old, and a virgin, and at first I had trouble with them. Once you know where they go in and such, they are so easy and clean! I re-use them as well. These are absolutely the best things ever. I love them TO DEATH!
I also reuse Instead. Why not? I clean it with anitbacterial soap. I use one a month… and throw it away after I use it for the one week cycle.
So, for those of you who have used this during sex–are you able to lubricate normally or does this block natural lubrication? Thanks!
yes lubrication is normal.
Thank you guys so much for this information, I have been dating a guy for six month and we havent had sex yet and we planned this trip three months ago and I just started my period today, the day Im supposed to leave. Whewwww glad to know there is something helpful out there.
I also have used, and re-used these. They are great!
