Reseller vs. Shared Hosting
A lot of people ask me what type of hosting I should get for my new or existing website. I always tell people it depends on what you want to do with the site and how many sites you plan on having. One of the biggest mistakes a lot of new or uninformed website creators go for is a under priced shared hosting plan which offers massive unrealistic amount of space for a limited price, but when you goto their resellers they offer barely any space for quite a larger amount.
You can see right then you don’t want a company like that. However, people constantly ask me what the difference is and why one is better than the other. Honestly, one isn’t better than the other generally but it is all a personal preference on what you need out of the plan itself.
Shared Hosting Plans:
I am going to give examples from one of my favorite hosts of which I have had nothing but great experience.
Shared hosting plans like on E-Starr Webhosting have a variety of options, most of these you want to to make sure your host has offers like this.
Shared hosting has the ability to have add-on domains along with parked domains. An add on domain offers the ability to run multiple sites off of one shared hosting plan, which allows you to run those sub domains mentioned in the previous post as top-level domains themselves.
Where as parked domains are just parked to the main domain. Which is great if you have purchased the multiple extensions, and plural versions. The number of either of this is limited to the number your host allows. Now most host offer between 2-5 of each of them. The reason being is for limited number is that someone doesn’t go over board with the number of domains on the server. The number of domains on the server can effect the speed and reliability of the server, also it can also effect your Google ranking believe it or not. Companies like HostGator for example offer unlimited domains on their hosting, and oversell and house 800+ accounts per server. An average web hosting server normally houses around 250-350 accounts. So that way their is still extra space, along with the ability for more space half of the accounts use up all the space they purchased.
Reseller Web hosting:
Reseller accounts offer the ability for more flexible account control and the ability to earn an income off of your account if you choose to do so. Each account you create you can assign packages which allows you to designate the space and the bandwidth each account is alloted vs. a shared hosting which uses the space and bandwidth off of the main account.
You are able to have unlimited domain accounts on a reseller plan up to the amount of space alloted. However the question you need to ask yourself is for the other accounts on the space alloted on the reseller accounts so much smaller than their gigantic shared accounts. It is definitely something you should ask your host on why they do that. The normality that I have experienced in good hosting is that resellers offer more space to house more domains. However, that is my own personal experience.
I prefer to have a host who has CPanel, great technical support, and Fantastico. A sign of good technical support is not the speed of their response its the quality of their response. I have had hosts who are very speedy in responding but it was several different people but I kept having repeating myself. If you do plan on opening up your own web hosting site, or want to offer your friends/clients. Make sure you do your thorough research on the webhosting company you are purchasing from and that they offer everything you need. See other websites hosted by them, do a whois search and see how many domains. However whois is not entirely accurate and can be off upto 6 domains per 30 accounts. So make sure you compensate.

Based on what you stated at the begining…..in refering to website creators, if you are creating and designing sites for clients, I would look into purchasing your own server and colocating it in a data center. This would allow you to have full control over the server and the content that goes on it. Then you could create your own shared server for YOUR clients. Just a thought.
yes you might want to do that but if you aren’t familiar with the differences which alot of people aren’t then go with resellers or shared hosting.
If you just take the leap into buying a server and you have no knowledge of them you’re up the creek with out a paddle.
It would be silly to do so. I would suggest familiarizing yourself with shared then if you buy more websites move onto a reseller and see how that works. Most people do not need a server. unless they are running very large websites. Even then some people make the mistake (which I myself have made) and bought a server based on price not quality. I ended up not being able to house half my sites since the server would go down. Pajama Mommy was down a lot since it is a massive site receiving over 5,000 visitors a day.
A proper server could cost anywhere from $150-$300 a month depending on what you need for it. A server or even a shared server thats 45-65 a month isn’t reliable.
There are some packages out there that offer unlimited add on domains but charge $10 per add on per year. Are you better off with that package or with a resellers account?
Feel free to send me your answer through email. You have my permission.

Hi everybody – Great forum! http://demya.com/images/forum.gif
We all know that Forex is the biggest market in the world and that we gain access to it through our chosen Forex Broker. I wanted to find the best Forex Broker for whatever trading system I am using at any given time. Sometimes I’m scalping, sometimes I’m in the Carry Trade.
If you are in search of a new broker I highly recommend you take a look at the Forex Broker Guide CompareForexBrokers.com . They compare and review the most comprehensive list of online Forex Brokers I have ever seen.
I was looking for a swap free broker – I found around 30 through their search function and comparison tables. There are around 20 comparison categories comparing everything from leverage and spreads to dealing desk and regulation. Also they have a really nice list of Brokers who offer MetaTrader 4.
I had been looking for a Forex site like this for ages! Hope it helps you too.
By the way it is free.
Please let me know what trading systems go best with which brokers?
I suggest using shared hosting.
If you dont host anyone then shared hosting will be enough. Any changes you would do via WHM if you had a reseller your host should be able to complete them for you.
