Parenting Children with Diabetes
Diabetes isn’t just medication, insulin shots and testing your blood sugar. It is about learning balance in your life. So what can you do to create a balance? You can educate yourself about diabetes (type 1 and type 2), as well as BG meters, pumps and medications. There are several resources available to parents- speaking to doctors/nurses, books, blogs, websites, conferences and other parents.
Jeff and Natalie Kolok decided to raise awareness and support about diabetes when their daughter Johanna was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of four. Their website offers blogs, forums, recipes and resources to help families cope with a diabetes diagnosis.
I personally do not know much about diabetes or understand how it affects an entire household, as I have never have to deal with it myself. I have, however, read several blogs of parents who have children that are affected by diabetes or are themselves diabetic. ParentingDiabeticKids.com is a wonderful website to pass along to friends and family members that are battling diabetes in their house hold or for you to simply learn more about the affects diabetes can have in a house hold.
