Netiquette

The word of the day is netiquette and it means: etiquette governing communication on the Internet.

Now, I came across this word by complete accident today and I’m still amused, but not surprised. There is a whole new language to learn when one approaches the Internet, and I guess I’m just too old school. But not too old to learn. There’s even a netiquette quiz you can take. Who’d a thunk it?

I don’t text message and I don’t instant message. Being a secretary by trade, I take messages and receive voice messages, but that’s about it. I’m polite about it, perhaps charming once in a while, and do my best to speak clearly and concisley. However being younger than a newbie, netiquette is still making me chuckle, but I guess with a gazillion people on the Internet you’ve got to have some basic rules. I’m sure that not everyone plays nice, but should – there’s always one in every family and every crowd.

As a person who tries (and enjoys) learning new things daily, I hope this helps you as much as it helped me.

Be kind and use proper netiquette!
