Migraine Relief the Natural Way
As someone who is very wary of what drugs and chemicals I allow to enter my body, I am always looking up natural ways to medicate for relief from whatever ailment I happen to have. As someone who also finds themselves sleeping most of the day away due to chronic migraines and having that really conflict with my every day life, I went on a search for any and all forms of natural ways to treat it without having to put foreign chemicals into my body.
Lavender is one of the best essential oils for your body and can serve several different purposes and can be used in several different products, such as an essential oil, soap, body wash, lotion or body balm. Lavender is first of all, an excellent stress reliever. If massaged into the temples or back of the neck, can relieve minor headaches and migraines while also making you feel cool, calm and collected. Lavender is also used in many herbal heat packs because of its calming quality, which are most often used on the neck, back or even the abdomen area and can also aid with menstrual cramps.
Acupuncture is another proven way to aid in the relief of migraines. It eases pain effectively and has very little side effects.
People who have went the route of Cognitive Therapy have been proven to have fewer and less severe headaches and also aids a great deal when dealing with depression. Cognitive Therapy helps those who suffer from migraines target what triggers a migraine and helps to eliminate that trigger through an “Oh well” attitude; accepting that something happens, knowing that you cannot do anything to eliminate it and moving forward with your life. For example, if you suffer from migraines, CT helps you to know you suffer, know it won’t go away, accept the fact that there is little that you can do about it and helps you to do what you can and know that you do not have all control over what your brain may be trying to tell you.
Personally, I have found that lavender does work a great deal, especially when used on a day-to-day or every other day basis. I have lavender in the forms of body wash, bath salt, body butter, lotion and body balm. When I have a headache, I massage the body balm into my temples, take a bath with the bath salt and body wash and when I get out, I know that my body is relaxed and in good spirits and I then lay down for about 15 minutes and let the lavender soak into my temples helping a headache while my already-relaxed body aids the process.
While these are only my personal anecdotes of natural migraine (and stress and menstrual cramp) relief, if you have tried other natural approaches, leave them in the comments!

I love the scent of lavender and am aware of it relaxing therapy. What I didn’t know is, it actually soothes you in a way that it helps relieves migraine.

Magnesium has cleared nearly every migraine case I have seen. Take it separately from calcium, they compete for receptor sites — at night before bed and it will help you sleep. 1000 mg or more, careful, too much can give you diarrhea.
i suffer from migraines and i never though lavender would help. i have to take a phenergran and go to sleep. it’s the only thing that helps mine, i have thought about trying something natural though. so thanks for the advice.
Very cool – I don’t get migraines but I know someone who does and I’ll pass along this info about lavender….what’s really cool is that I have a lavender plant outside (came with the house) but I haven’t used it for anything. I don’t see myself making essential oils but I’m going to see if there’s anything I can do with it besides just watering it.
Homeopathy tends to work for many different people. You can finds books in your local library or people who practice it in your local phonebook or over the net.
