KaBOOM! Play Date giveaway!
In lieu of the National Week of Play this month, we at PJ Mommy, wanted to take a moment to introduce you to a non-profit group named KaBOOM! KaBOOM’s mission is to make sure all kids have nice, safe and a close-by playground to play at. In addition to hosting Playground Builds in underprivileged areas they are also encouraging people to plan “Play Dates” in celebration of National Week of Play September 19 – 27.
To help celebrate the National Week of Play, PJ Mommy willing be giving away a play date kit to one lucky reader. With this kit, we encourage our readers to host a Play Day in their community and enjoy games of yesteryear like: hopscotch, four square, double dutch, and kickball. If you are interested in hosting a Play Day or would like to locate one in your area, visit the KaBOOM! website.
Some other great ideas for Play Day:
- Build a fort. Using old items from the garage – like cardboard boxes, camping supplies, and beach toys – let your kids build a fort as big or as small as their imaginations can fathom.
- Run through the sprinklers. Skip the neighborhood pool, green up your lawn and give your kids free reign to splish-splash away.
- Keep it simple. Stock up on bubbles, sidewalk chalk and hula hoops for hours of outside fun.
- Spruce it up! Organize your community to clean up and beautify existing play spaces. Working side by side, parents and kids can make a difference right in their own neighborhoods.

My ideal playdate would be one where my friends would bring their kids over for a day of fun and relaxation outside. The kids could play games and we could chat and enjoy watching them just be kids!

It would include well-behaved children, and one of my kids’ favorite activities has always been to make “jewelry”. I buy red string licorice, Fruit Loops, and Cheerios, and it keeps the kids happy and entertained as they fashion necklaces and bracelets. That’s a great indoor Play Date activity, while outdoors, we enjoy going to the park, capped off with ice cream for everyone if it’s not too near suppertime.
