Precautionary Measures While Taking Sudafed During Pregnancy

If you must take Sudafed because your doctor advised it or your symptoms are really bad, take the following precautions

  • It is better to take Sudafed as a nasal spray instead of tablet or oral syrup.
  • Do not chew or break Sudafed tablet. Take it as a whole.
  • Take tablet with full glass of water.
  • If you are taking it in suspension form, shake well before taking dose.
  • Use medicine measuring spoon to measure Sudafed oral suspension.
  • Maximum duration to take Sudafed in a row is seven days.
  • If symptoms continue after seven days of medication, consult your doctor.
  • If you are having surgery, tell your doctor in advance that you are taking Sudafed.
  • Keep Sudafed in a dry place at room temperature.
  • If you are hypertensive, avoid Sudafed in all three trimesters.

Dosage Of Sudafed For Pregnant Women

If you decide to take Sudafed, its average recommended dose is 30 mg to 60 mg. But it is highly recommended to ask your doctor about the dosage to keep your unborn baby safe.

If you do have a cold, it is better to have hot soup, tea and do gargles to improve your symptoms. Only take the medicine if your doctor advises it.
