Out Bound Links Do They Matter?

woman thinking about outbound linksIn the past advertisers have emailed me and have been deterred because of the number of out bound links on this site. Have you experience that?

There are various checkers of out bound links however they aren’t accurate in the least. Make sure you keep on file the number of permanent outbound links on your site. This is great for reference and can be placed on your advertiser sheet.

Pajama Mommy’s links are a little pricier because we have the supply and demand rule.I have a limited number of links I am selling on this site. That number increases and decreases as old advertisers expire or third party links are to be removed. However is this the case with blogs?

Pajama Mommy is run on wordpress 2.3.1 so in the case of the program that we’re using we are a blog. However with each article written links to websites increase the number of outbound links which to me the checkers are no longer accurate for the new programs out there. If your site is static I would say yes, but you’re wondering what to do when an advertiser talks to you about this.. well here is how I handle it and I recommend to you.

First off know your website. If they say you have X number of links according to a checker you need to come back with a response stating something along the lines of “Although outbound link checkers are useful in most cases on a website such as my own which is considered a blog the checker doesn’t work properly in this matter. Each article has its own number of links. Article A can have 10 links to 10 separate sites because it is a blog carnival but article B can have 3 links since I wanted to mention a product I had reviewed. These links are neither permanent nor accurate on the link checker. My site may have X amount of out bound links but that number fluctuates. The permanent number of outbound links is Y, which does not include the links that are not through the blogging system to separate portions of my website. (Such as the top sites or the subdomains that Pajama Mommy has). So the price of my links are appropriate reflecting the real numbers of links that the link checker, again is useful but not updated nor accurate in this case.

I personally don’t think outbound links matter but I do think it matters how you set up your links for advertisers. If you sell directly and use a third party program I think separating the two allowing the direct advertisers higher view points with smaller number of links next to them allows them to feel more “elite” and the likelihod they will be clicked and renewed is higher.

Your website is your business, this is your bread in butter. You have to treat it like it, for people who don’t care thats fine you don’t have to make money with your website or turn it into a business. However, for those who want to earn an income with their blog you need to know your basics. Offer all this information on an advertising page but be prepared to repeat yourself constantly since not everyone reads it. Knowing your facts on your own website and those around you is what is key.
