Book Revew: Gluten-Free Quick & Easy
This book was written by Carol Fenster, Ph.D., also the author of Wheat-Free Recipes and Menus.
Approaching this review was easy. Who doesn’t like to eat? There are 200+ recipes and the cover picture of a homemade pizza with melting mozzarella cheese and fresh basil leaves sprinkled on top had me primped and ready!
Obviously these recipes are aimed at a special diet demographic but they are very hearty recipes for pastas and breads. I’ve been eliminating many unhealthy foods from my own household so this book came in very handy. It’s also a wealth of information for those who do not have special needs. Living gluten-free can be accomplished with a bit of advanced planning and shopping.
I was going to make the cover pizza but it required a little bit more shopping for items that unless I was seriously going to use again, I wasn’t going to buy, such as xanthan gum, potato starch and gaur gum. I don’t even know what these things are, so I looked for something else to make. If I can’t have pizza, I’ll make Sunday Pot Roast with Gravy!
Nothing strange here. This was good and as the header in the book says, “This is super-easy.” She’s right. The recipe required your basic kitchen staples but a gluten-free herb blend by Spice Hunter and gluten-free, low-sodium beef broth by Swanson.
Anyone with these specific dietary needs will find this book well worth the money spent.
