Book Review: Throw Out Fifty Things; Clear the Clutter, Find your Life by Gail Blanke
If you are like me, you have “things” you have collected over the years that you just can’t (and these are things you never, ever wore or used) part with, like the adorable bohemian blouse from the hippie shop that you can’t get over your head because it is a “one size fits NOBODY!
Or those stops at the yard sales where you pick up other peoples “things” that now become your “things” that end up in your yard sale, but you hold on to them way too long! This book is great because the author not only covers the material “things” to unload, but also the emotional “things” you need to really get rid of! She literally goes through every nook and cranny of your home and has you really look at the stuff you have been hoarding like a winter squirrel, and helps you to part with them, and then has you rejoice in the weight that you really feel has been lifted off you.
Not to mention the satisfaction you feel when you can donate the usable items to a good cause. The back of the book covers the different charities; recycle centers and other helpful places to make sure you throw out your stuff properly. It was actually uplifting to really dig in and get started, and once you start throwing away the junk (both material and emotional) you feel almost like a bulldozer, but better for it when you are done. This is a definite keeper. Not one to throw away!
