Book review: The Great American Heart Hoax by Michael Ozner, MD
I just love to read these books that give you the low down from the specialists who know. So reading this book was an eye opener. To have a society in these times where you have these great Heart Surgeons doing these evasive procedures when the patient will not benefit from it, I was blown away.
Now, granted like the Doctor says in the book, some patients will benefit from the angioplasties, or the coronary bypass operations, but more and more people (1.5 million surgeries done in America alone)are having them done that do not need them and will not benefit from the procedures or operations. But the good part was I did believe the author. At no time in my reading did I think that the author was not telling it like it is.
I also love that he went through each different kind of heart symptom, cholesterol totals, radiation, etc. And gives us the answers to many of the questions we may have on each subject. He also has drawn diagrams of what an artery with built up plaque looks like and what the angioplasty looks like when inserted and blown up to help remove the buildup. He includes his 10 step program for us to follow so if we start to take the steps to be healthy now, we won’t have to get to the position in having our doctor’s suggesting we have this procedure done.
Let’s face it, the heart is not something that when you have pain, or any other symptoms you want to wait on, or have miss diagnosed. So I feel very positive in following his program and becoming heart healthy. It also makes me want to check out his other book The Miami Mediterranean Diet. He mentions it in the book and gives us a small peek at what is in it, but definitely leaves you wanting to read more. He covers the toxic diets we Americans live on and how just by changing our foods and adding exercise we can literally reverse the effects we have had on our hearts and improve it and live longer, healthy happy lives years past what we are headed for now. This is one I will keep close by and read often.
