Book Review: The Dirty Secrets Club By: Meg Gardiner

This was definitely a page turning who dun nit story that had me whipping through the pages so fast I was mad the book was not longer when I turned the last page!! It was a very good suspense-murder-detective story I have read in a really long time. I love the fact it was centered on women, as most of these stories are mainly men, but the author did a wonderful job at focusing on the women in this one.

The main character is Jo Beckett, a forensic psychiatrist, whose job it is to determine not how the victim died, but why and the events surrounding the death, then has the task of asking questions to the family, friends, co-workers and acquaintances about the victim’s life up to the point of the crime, the scenario behind the death. She gives herself the title of “The Dead Shrinker”, as she can’t talk to the victims alive, she must depend on everyone else she questions to fill in the gaps to find the murderer. Then there is Lt. Tang.

An Asian cop who is straight forward and hardnosed, but very likable. Lt. Tang is gruff and at first does not trust Jo, but slowly accepts that she knows what she is doing and lets her go with it, and together they make a great team, and the banter between them is very real! Enter Callie Harding, the first victim, who is in charge of recruiting new blood into The Dirty Secrets Club. The idea of the club is you pay to tell you’re most private, no one must ever know secrets. But something goes very wrong, and the members of the club are being brutally murdered, and Jo is running out of time, as every 48 hours a new member meets their gruesome death. It was a very gripping story, and I can’t wait to read more of Meg Gardiner as she is a definite page turning writer. One I will keep on my bookshelf!!!
