Book Review: Mojo Mom ,Nurturing Your Self While Raising a Family by Amy Tiemann, PH.D.

The title of this book drew me to it. I am always looking for the book to hit the spot. Now my kids are grown and have kids of their own, but even at 50 I am still trying to find my way, whether its in work or home. The author covers topics that every woman has and needs to address at some point in her life after becoming a wife and especially a mother, where we tend to lose “ourselves” to everybody else.

Mojo Mom shows women practical ways to : Prepare to become a mom without losing your identity, Survive and enjoy the intense early years, Reenter the workplace or take on a new path with confidence and ease, and so on. It was a good book to have and I sped through it. The chapters include: A Mother is born, Sex after the baby arrives, Going back to work, A working mother’s wish list Banking the embers of yourself…to build a bonfire later, and so on.

After each chapter she gives resources and references and they are worth checking out. Her ideas were practical, and made a lot of sense. When we as women make the change from becoming women to mothers its life changing, and this book eases us into it without losing who we are, or even who we were. This is one I am adding to my growing bookshelf, and will give a few copies to the women in my life! Lovely book.
