Book Review: House of Daughters (House of Peine) ~ Sarah-Kate Lynch
This is the story of three sisters whose lives, loves, and disappointments are blended together when they are forced to be united by the death of their father, Olivier Peine.
Clementine, the eldest, who believes she is the sole inheritor of the Peine Chateau and Vineyards, discovers through her lawyer that she will now share her estate with a half-sister Mathilde. This causes Clementine to have a meltdown, and was an extremely comical read. Believing her problems could not get any worse, Clementine hears of yet another sister named Sophie who also has a claim on the estate – then she really loses it!
Because this is a lucrative, and competitive, vineyard, the future for these three sisters hinges upon them all getting along together in a business atmosphere. In order to keep the chateau and the vineyards which grow the chardonnay, pinot meunir, and pinot noir grapes that produce the famous Peine Champagne is a challenge that contributes to an adventure which also brings them together, finally, as a happy family.
House of Daugters is a wonderful, heartwarming story that made me laugh and cry.
