Book Review: Free to be You and Me By Marlo Thomas and Friends

This thirty fifth anniversary edition was just like going back in time and reading the original one, but even better. It gives the reader the knowledge that to be whom you are right now no matter what age or religion, or ethnic background that we are great. But also that who you grow up to be or grow up into is even better.

We change so many times as we grow up, and to be accepted as we are and for who we are is so awesome that we can only grow into the best people we can. The book comes with a CD on the back cover with four songs from the book and they are spectacular. I played it for the kids and they were so excited, as we have read the original book so this was like an added gift to the book. It is a toe tapping, hip moving hand clapping CD that sings out its message.

The songs are Free to be me and you, Parents are People Too, Sisters and Brothers and its Alright to Cry. It has the music and lyrics in the back of the book to sing along to and also has more songs that are not on the CD, but can be sung just the same. The illustrations are so colorful, and the stories and poems are just a blast to sit and read to your kids or actually by yourself. The different messages and lessons you learn are timeless. I will be buying more copies to give as it is one to have on the book shelf to share over and over again.
