Book Giveaway: Reading Together: Everything You Need to Know to Raise a Child Who Loves to Read ~ Diane W. Frankenstein
As as a parent, I have often times found myself clueless when it came to certain aspects of raising my child. I spent endless amounts of hours wondering how in the world I would teach my child how to read, write, draw, tie his shoes and many other important aspects. Our pediatrician would reassure me that my son was learning at the right pace, but if I still was not confident, I could always join playgroups. Those fears subsided after the birth of my second child because hey, I knew what I was doing!
Reading Together, by Diane Frankenstein has also helped to ease my mind and reassure me that all of the tips and tools I have been using with my son will actually help him in the long run. Diane believes in the the simple equation: read a book – ask a question – start a conversation = raising a child who loves to read. In her book, she offers recommendations for what to read, as well as providing you with approaches (prove successful) in raising a child that loves to read.
A study by the Michigan Department of Education concluded that more than budgets or teachers, parents are the reasons children perform as they do in school. READING TOGETHER offers parents:
* Invaluable reading tips that support their efforts in raising readers
* More than 750 additional book recommendations, child-tested and teacher-approved
* Guidelines for selecting appropriate books both in terms of reading level and emotional readiness
* Conversation starters for some of the many challenges of childhood, including bullies, peer pressure, resilience, popularity, and much more…

I would love to know how to make my child love to read

As soon as they learn to speak, you can teach them what a letter stands for. They may not understand it but if they can say “mama” if they saw you, then you might as well teach them “A” whenever the letter is presented.

I love reading with my daughter. Thanks for the great book giveaway.

Keitha, I have three children who love to read. When I was in college, I interviewed to be a nanny. The mother said she wanted her kids to love to read so she always wanted to have as many books as toys on the floor. She wanted her kids to think of books as a fun activity. I didn’t get the job, but I remembered her idea. My kids are now in 1st, 3rd, and 4th grade and all enjoy reading.
