Lunapads: Natural Menstrual Products
I am happy to present everyone with a new category—Going Green! Here is where we’ll give you ideas and tips on how you can eliminate yourself of corporate chemicals and take a little pressure off of the planet to boot.
I am very excited about this category, specifically because I have the opportunity to review a product that I believe every woman needs to hear about—Lunapads!
For $5 off a purchase of Lunapads (of over $25) simply put the promo code pjmommy07 in during checkout.
The first time I heard of Lunapads was while standing in the middle of the magazine aisles at Borders Books & Music, flipping through my favorite feminist-geared magazine. At the time, my cycle situation was a little complicated. I am one of those women who celebrates being a woman. I like to feel in touch with my inner sense of woman at all times and embrace who I am and what I represent. Because of this, during my cycle, I wrapped a towel around my lower half whenever I was at home on the computer, or lounging around. I did this so I could “be with my body†as it went through it’s most intimate and natural processes. However, whenever I left the comfort of my home, I was forced to go back to disposable pads and tampons because you can’t really go walking down the street with a full-sized towel stuffed in your pants, as humorous as that may seem to a lot of people. I thought there had to be another alternative out there I didn’t know about. And then I heard about Lunapads.
Lunapads are natural and reusable menstrual products for women of all ages, sizes, and menstrual flows. While reusable products may sound a little weird or even disgusting at first, Lunapads were made by women with women in mind. This is the most important fact, as opposed to corporations with profit in mind, who are making more money than I can imagine with products that leaves you at risk for infection or skin irritation. Natural menstrual products are just that—natural. It eliminates the risk of infection, you are helping to decrease the amount of plastic and other harmful substances going back into the planet, and you are at one with your body.
Lunapads are made with a dual layer of 100% cotton flannel and an additional layer of ultra-thin, breathable nylon. They come in an array of different sizes, sure to fit any woman, if you’re a teen, in your 20s, 30s, or even middle-aged with five children under you belt. Best of all, they work with any type of menstrual flow.
When I first received my intro kit, the first thing I thought was “They are so cute!†Made by women, they know that the first standard that must be met when appealing to women, is visual appeal. They are available in 11 different colors and styles, one of which being 100% organic cotton. So the visual appeal of the product was definitely met, and once my cycle made it’s grand appearance, I was more than ready to test how durable these products really are.
By the second day of using Lunapads, I was amazed. Their pads lasted for a longer period than any other disposable I have ever used. This is made possible by liners that accompany each pad, making it easy to simply put a new liner in while keeping the initial pad in place all day. Best of all, as I’ve experienced with disposable pads, Lunapads are completely comfortable. The fabric feels like your “comfort undies”, and every woman knows what I’m talking about. The most comfortable panties you have in your drawer that you get out whenever you’re experiencing harsh cramps and a part of you just feels comfortable and relaxed. The durability of these products is impressive , especially since they have a life span of 5 years!
There are different ways you can go about washing your Lunapads. The first, and most practical choice, is to put them in the washer and dryer with a typical load of wash you would be doing anyway. Washing my first Lunapad, I opted for this way and everything went smoothly. The washer was completely safe and there wasn’t any visible shrinking after coming out of the dryer. The second option, is to hand wash. It is recommended to soak your Lunapads in cold water, as is gets rid of the most immediate staining and you may also use a soap of your choice or usual laundry detergent. While soaking my second pad, I opted to hand wash it and then put it in the dryer, but you can also hang them up to dry in your bathroom. Personally, I enjoy hand washing because it gives me the satisfaction of going through a process to care for myself and for my intimate possessions.
For the women on the go, it is also very easy to carry your Lunapads with you. They fold into themselves and stay clasped by a small snap. When they are folded, they resemble little coin purses more than anything, making it easy to fit into your purse as well as be discreet around the people you don’t want to announce that you’re on your “womanly time†to.
After using Lunapads for just the past few days, I am even more in touch with my inner woman than I was before. With the simple act of hand washing and knowing that they are going to be there again next month when I need them is comforting, without having to worry if I have enough disposables to last me through my first day before I can run out to the store to pick up more. And of course, saving money I would be using on disposables is a truly fantastic thing!
For any woman looking to make the switch from disposables to natural, reusable menstrual products should definitely do so. As a special promotion through this website only, with any purchase just $25 and over, you are going to receive $5 off! I definitely recommend the Intro Kit, allowing you to try both the pads as well as the liners to test them out and see what is right for you!

yes,you have very nice goods!I like them very much!Perfect!
Okay, there is no way I would use these – no way. When I’m in the privacy of my own home or when I’m out, I use my favorite pad from the wholesale club. Women who wish to use these kind of feminine products may also like to read the book entitled, “Her Blood Is Gold” – I read it a few years back and it is very enlightening; it may be out of print now, but it’s worth the research.
It’s so interesting that you posted this. I’ve been looking at the lunapads for about a month now, trying to decide. Every few days I do a google blog search to see what the consensus is, and so far (of the people who have actually TRIED them) I have yet to read anything negative. I may be getting some for me and my teen daughter.
Thanks for the well written review. I hope to remember to use your coupon code!
I like the idea. I don’t like the idea that for years I have used products with bleach, and god knows what else in them. I think they should all be organic cotton, but that’s just me.
I don’t know about these. They sounds interesting, but I don’t know if I could reuse a pad. I’ll have to give it a try though.
