30 Hour Famine

I have always had a joy in helping others and volunteering. A recent survey shows that teens volunteer more than their parents. I think this is a very interesting survey, because my parents never volunteered, but my sister and I always did and still do. Teens today are considered lazy, stubborn, and selfish. But, most teenagers are more aware of the needs of others because of the economic climate. Teens have even been participating in the 30 hour famine. The 30 Hour Famine is an international youth movement to fight hunger. During the 30 Hour Famine, teens participate in community service projects, such as, food banks, soup kitchens, and homeless shelters. One out of every six people on earth (850 million people) will go to bed hungry tonight. It is devastating to see the effects of our economy. Therefore, on February 27th and February 28th, thousands of teens will participate in the 30 Hour Famine, giving up food for 30 hours, to just get a taste of what hungry children face. Also, to help the hunger, teenagers (and everyone else) can donate to 30 Hour Famine. 86% of donations are given to Malawi, North Korea, Peru, Haiti, Swaziland, to improve food security and save the lives of children. I am very impressed with our youth today, I do think they are going to be the future’s promise, they are going to change the world, it just has to happen slowly.
